Westborough – Police Chief Alan Gordon released this statement this morning regarding an investigation alleging voter fraud that occurred at the fall Town Meeting held Monday, Oct. 16.

After speaking with all parties involved, and after receiving information from a representative of the Secretary of State’s office, it has been determined that no criminal act was committed. The Secretary of State’s office determined that although not proper, the individual who voted with two hand held voting devices did not violate any voting law. She did recommend that the Town Moderator update the rules that govern town meeting to reflect the current method of voting.

The Police investigation showed that the individual who was observed with the two hand held electronic voting devices, had only been issued one hand held voting device when checking in. The second hand held voting device was issued to his wife who had also checked in. The wife was not sitting next to her husband when the vote was taken but he was acting on her authority to issue her vote on her hand held voting device.
