Westborough – On May 3, the second annual International Fair was held at the Armstrong Elementary School in Westborough.

The day was filled with activities and presentations from around the world. Parents from international countries set up presentations and offered native food samples. Otha Day of “Drum to the Beat” engaged students and their families in an interactive drumming display. Closing out the fair were a number of performers, including traditional Indian and Lithuanian dancers and live music from Richard Poza from Venezuela.

These performances were made possible through a grant from the Westborough Cultural Society. Principal John Mendes, was highly appreciative of the grant.

“We are very grateful,” he said. “Westborough is a community enriched by families from all across the world and I am pleased that so many of our parents, teachers and students have worked together to create such a vibrant celebration.”

The chair of the school’s Diversity Council and third grade teacher Janet Hart organized the fair.

“As I look around today and see the smiling faces of our families from Singapore, Gambia, Lithuania, India, USA, Czech Republic, China, Senegal and so many other countries, I am struck by how fortunate we are to have a principal and teachers who respect each child’s uniqueness while also celebrating their diversity,” she noted.

Students who attended the events were given a passport at the door to record all of the countries they visited. Students were entered to win a gift basket of books donated by Westborough TV.
