Westborough – The Westborough High School girls tennis’ team received the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) Athletic Achievement award May 12.

The award recognizes student athletes and coaches for outstanding initiatives in one of the five pillars of educational athletics. Westborough received the award for their work in the community.

Over the past year the Westborough girls’ tennis team worked with Tenacity, an organization dedicated to providing tennis instruction and reading help over the summers to at-risk youth. Westborough’s head coach Mary Schwartz and her team held clinics in Worcester for kids as part of the organization’s work.

“[The team] has developed a project each year. [We] believe that part of the function of being a representative of Westborough High School is recognizing what is important beyond athletics,” said Schwartz.
