WESTBOROUGH — State Police and other authorities are investigating a fatal accident that occurred this morning at a trucking facility behind 4400 Computer Drive.
According to Fire Chief Patrick Purcell, at 9:19 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 27, police responded to a 911 call of an employee who was injured and unresponsive.
The employee was performing maintenance on a 53-foot box trailer when it collapsed and fell on him. Purcell said that the trailer was full of water and other items.
He added that upon arrival, paramedics treated the trapped man; however, his injuries were “significant,” and he died about one hour later.
The man has not been identified, pending notification of kin.
Purcell said that the recovery operation would take several hours.
“You can’t hurry with a vehicle like this,” he said, adding that Ted’s Towing is assisting with the recovery efforts.
Westborough Fire and Police are remaining on the scene in support of State Police assigned to the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office and OSHA, according to Police Chief Todd Minardi.
“This is an unfortunate workplace accident,” said Minardi.
“You don’t like to see that [during the holidays],” said Purcell.
This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
