WESTBOROUGH – Progress continues to be made to finish the project at Village Commons at 1 Gleason St.

During the Planning Board meeting on Oct. 17, Director of Planning Jen Gingras said she had visited the site on Oct. 16, and she reported “substantial progress.”

The sidewalk has been installed, the dumpster enclosure has been completed, most of the outdoor lighting has been installed, and paving is scheduled to be completed next week.

There are still several items to be completed before the board’s next meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 14. Should these not be finished by then, the town could begin imposing fines on developer Farooq Ansari.

While completion nears for Village Commons, updated plans were shown for the commercial component.

The main issue is parking – how many spaces for residents, how many for visitors, and how many for the commercial area.

A representative from WDA Design Group, who presented the plans, said they could exchange some open space for more parking.

There was also some discussion about installing a fence alongside an abutter (board members preferred having trees planted along the property line) and whether to have a separate entrance.

The public hearing for both projects has been continued to Nov. 14.
