WESTBOROUGH – At its meeting on May 2, the Westborough Economic Development Committee (EDC) voted to support six businesses with $14,633.71 in total grant funding through its Business Assistance Grant Program.
The EDC created the Business Assistance Grant Program to provide financial assistance to businesses undertaking growth or expansion projects and to stimulate investment in vacant or underutilized commercial space in the town.
The program is funded annually at Town Meeting, and the EDC is allowed to expend $60,000 per year.
This was the first round of grant applicants since Town Meeting approved funding for the program at the 2023 Annual Town Meeting in March.
Coffee and Pi received $1,500 to purchase equipment and grow and expand the new coffee shop. Harman’s Wine and Spirits also received $1,500 for new signs associated with their rebrand.
The EDC awarded $1,633.71 to Honey Dew Donuts to purchase tables, chairs, umbrellas and flowers for outdoor seating. Learning Express Toys received $5,000 to remove old carpet and install new laminate floor, and Max Cricket Sports received $2,500 for additional merchandising equipment.
Swanski’s Bakeshop also received $2,500 to allow them to purchase tables, chairs and umbrellas for outdoor seating.
The EDC reviews grant applications on a quarterly basis. At this time, the EDC considers and approves grants at its February, May, August and November meetings, which occur on the first Tuesday of the month at 8 a.m. in Town Hall.
