WESTBOROUGH – Westborough Police deployed their drone late Sunday night in response to the long familiar problem of a truck striking the low train bridge over East Main Street in town.
They shared a photo and a brief statement just after 10 p.m.
A tractor trailer had struck the bridge, prompting some delays in the downtown area overnight.
Traffic was flowing normally as of 10 p.m.
Police initially opted to use their drone, flying to assess damage done to the truck.
They ultimately determined the damage to be “disabling,” prompting the truck to be towed from the scene.
CSX, which operates the rail line utilizing the bridge, responded to this incident, according to Westborough Police.
Debris could be seen dangling from the bridge early Monday morning.

Bridge strikes have been a somewhat common occurrence for years as the bridge near the downtown area does not have sufficient clearance to allow trucks to pass underneath.
Trucks have repeatedly collided with the span despite numerous warnings on its approaches.
Police, similarly, have used their drone on multiple occasions, deploying it in situations including a recent pursuit where a suspect allegedly bailed out of his car after hitting a police spike strip. Police said the suspect fled into a section of woods near the Westborough/Grafton town line, leading to a brief search.
