WESTBOROUGH – Nurse Beth Terhune of Westborough was recognized in the Boston Globe’s annual “Salute to Nurses” section for her exemplary work at Hebrew SeniorLife’s Hospice and Palliative Care in Dedham.

Terhune was nominated by her colleague Emily Palmer, a fellow certified nurse working as the Clinical Director of Hospice and Palliative Care at Hebrew SeniorLife.

“Salute to Nurses; recognizes nurses whose dedication and caring have saved lives, soothed fears, and eased the pain of countless patients and their families,” read a press release defining the honor.

“Beth is not only an excellent nurse practitioner who practices evidence-based palliative care, she is also an authentic and caring person who positively impacts her patients, families, and colleagues,” Palmer wrote, meanwhile, in her nomination of Terhune.

As COVID-19 hit, nurses found themselves on the front lines. In many cases, they faced substantially more emotional and physical stress than they normally do, even in what are already taxing jobs.

There was an outpouring of support and appreciation for health care workers that is now continuing, for Terhune in particular, with this special recognition.

“Beth has a unique ability to foster relationships, build trust, and alleviate suffering in the face of difficult circumstances,” she added. “She moves gracefully between settings and shows compassion and understanding to all she encounters. In this difficult year, we appreciated her skill and commitment more than ever.”
