Westborough – A semi truck hit the low train bridge over East Main St, March 17. This marks the second such incident in exactly one week.
Photos from the scene shot shortly after 9:30am show a mangled truck sat to the north of the bridge, having apparently come from the direction of Downtown Westborough before grinding to a halt.
“At this point, we do not believe a caption is necessary to explain what happened,” the Westborough Police Department posted alongside a photo on its Facebook page shortly before 9am.
The train bridge has long menaced truck drivers who, despite copious signage, have frequently plowed their vehicles through an impassable 12.5 feet of clearance.
Town officials have tried to fix the problem, but otherwise blame trucking companies and GPS services for routing drivers through downtown.
Just last week, a similar situation to the one March 17 unfolded as a separate truck peeled its entire roof off while passing under the bridge.
