Westborough  – The BORO Sugar Shack recently celebrated a very sweet anniversary indeed – its first year in business. But as its many fans know, this establishment is not just a popular candy store in the downtown area. Rather, it has also served as an important program designed as a learning lab for post-high school students with special abilities.

In a special anniversary celebration held Nov. 13 at its 15 E. Main St. location, members of the Corridor 9/495 Regional Chamber of Commerce mingled with some of the young staff and their supporters. Before cutting a ceremonial ribbon, several students shared a few thoughts about what it means for them to work at the store. They noted that they had learned how to do things around the story, interacted with customers and had gained pride in their work. They each also shared their favorite candy as well.

Supporters of the program have plans for many more events to be held at the Sugar Shack and encourage the community to consider it as a resource to hold events there as well. Monetary donations are always welcome to help support the initiatives and may be made at the GoFundMe page https://www.gofundme.com/f/boro-sugarshack-westboroughschools.
