Worcester – The Westborough High School boys’ basketball team will get to raise the Central Massachusetts Division II Championship banner after a strong game against Medway High School March 9, running away with the win, 73-39. It is the first time since 1991 that WHS has won this title.

In the game, which was played at Worcester State University, both teams played strong defense which kept the score close going into halftime time, with Medway leading 26-25. The shift came at the end of the third as Westborough pulled away from Medway with a final score, 73-39.

The Westborough fans showed up in numbers to support and cheer on their team. They also sang “Happy Birthday” to Mike and Matt Doherty who were also celebrating their 18th birthday as well as division title.

And there was one more special reason the Dohertys were in a celebratory mood – Matt scored in the first two minutes of the game, joining his brother as a member of the elite 1000 point club.
