Westborough – Worcester County District Attorney Joseph D. Early Jr., who formed the Central Mass Opioid Task Force in 2015, will present a program, “Prescription Drug Safety for Seniors,” at noon, Wednesday, March 13 at the Whittier Rehabilitation Hospital in Westborough.
Early formed the Central Mass Opioid Task Force in response to the growing abuse of opioids throughout Worcester County and Massachusetts. The task force, with more than 350 members, meets regularly to discuss ways the community and individuals can fight the opioid crisis.
Early’s office has also won several state and federal grants to help fight against opioid addiction. Among the initiatives the district attorney has introduced are the safe disposal of unused legally-prescribed opioid medications and the increased use of Narcan, a drug used by first responders that undoes the effects an overdose of opioids have a person.
Elisabeth Haddad, Central Mass Opioid Task Force coordinator and elder outreach facilitator for the district attorney’s office, will join Early for the presentation. Among the topics that will be discussed are the safe storage and disposal of medications, an update on the opioid crisis, and what is being done at the local and state level to fight the crisis.
RSVP to Joanne, Whittier Education Dept., at 508- 871-2134. Whittier is located at 150 Flanders Road, Westborough.
