
Westborough – The Westborough Lions Club will hold a free seminar,” Living Well with Diabetes,” Thursday, March 21, at 7 p.m. at Mill Pond School, 6 Olde Hickory Path, in Westborough. The seminar is targeted for anyone living with Type 1 or Type 2 Diabetes, their families, friends or caregivers.
The event will feature two speakers. The first will be Kendra Magyar, health services director at the Barton Center for Diabetes Education in N. Oxford. She is a certified diabetes educator and nurse practitioner, who herself has lived well with Type 1 Diabetes for over 30 years. The second is Dr. Laura Alonso, an endocrinologist at UMass Memorial Hospital specializing in Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes. She is also an associate professor of medicine and director of beta cell biological studies at UMass Medical School. She heads a lab at UMass Medical School studying Pancreatic Beta Cell Regeneration.
The program will include such topics as “Food: Eating Well at Home and in Restaurants”; “Exercise: Its Benefits and Concerns”; “The Use of Technology and New Therapies on the Horizon”; “Support Systems and the Importance of a Positive Attitude”; and “The Barton Center for Diabetes Education: Its Camps and Programs”. A Q&A session will follow the seminar.
