Westborough – The holiday season kicked off Nov. 25 in downtown Westborough as the town’s Economic Development Committee partnered with the Recreation Department for its fourth annual Holiday Stroll, culminating with the Rotary Club continuing its longtime tree lighting. Event sponsor was RE/MAX real estate agent Gary Kelley.
Festivities began at the Westborough Public Library with holiday stories read by Mrs. Claus (aka Library Director Maureen Ambrosino). Outdoors on several blocks of West Main Street, nonprofit organizations and businesses offered holiday-themed children’s activities. Westborough High School (WHS) senior Jack Lentine musically added to the ambience as deejay. Westborough TV invited strollers inside its studio for video karaoke caroling.
Strollers lined sidewalks to view a light parade featuring decorated vehicles representing nonprofit organizations and businesses. The WHS Marching Band brought holiday tunes to the parade route. Santa Claus made a grand entrance on a reindeer-drawn sleigh atop a flatbed truck provided by E.L. Harvey & Sons.
Rotary Club of Westborough President Betsy Moquin helped Santa with the tree lighting countdown. Santa then took a seat at the rotary, where children shared their gift wishes and received candy canes from Rotarians.
